IL SONNO DELLA RAGIONE GENERA MOSTRI di Fulvio Benelli e Giuseppe Simonetta → La Cultura governa e organizza i pensieri e le azioni umane che vanno dalla sfera politica all’economica, alla socialità, ovvero i rapporti uomo-natura, uomo-uomo, uomo-divinità; rapporti che noi appelliamo estetici, etici e religiosi. E, compresa tra queste categorie, c’è ovviamente, come amalgama, anche il perseguimento e la conservazione della salute. La storia ce lo insegna: più un popolo perde la salus della propria cultura, infusa in modo olistico tanto nell’organismo complessivo quanto nelle sue parti, più le identità e le azioni di quel determinato popolo si fanno frammentate, improduttive e “cancerogene”, per sé e per gli altri popoli, sia circostanti che lontani.

Il motto latino mens sana in corpore sano, a patto che comporti beatitudini, è vero sia per il singolo individuo che per l’intera collettività di appartenenza. La spiegazione va cercata nella legge di natura che stabilisce che ovunque si crei un vuoto va colmato o, parafrasando, dove c’è Abele c’è anche un Caino pronto ad occuparsene. In altri termini, dove si genera un vuoto della cultura, spirituale e materiale, nonché della salus, si crea lo spazio necessario per le malattie. È successo anche con la cultura dell’Impero Romano: solo fin quando ha retto con le sue strutture “civilizzatrici”, in idee e azioni di pari concretezza pragmatica, ha potuto contenere le spinte disgregatrici dei “barbari”, tenuti a bada dall’illusione della novella religione cristiana. Questo fenomeno accade, così come per la vita e il governo della polis, della sua economia e delle sue relazioni sociali, in modo tale che l’identità personale possa dialogare con l’identità della propria comunità, così anche nel rapporto invisibile – ma di cui sono ben visibili gli effetti – con le popolazioni di esseri viventi non umani che ospitiamo nel nostro corpo: virus, germi, microbi e batteri. Alcuni di loro sono necessari per la nostra sopravvivenza, altri sono deleteri. La cultura si rivela dunque un fattore decisivo nella conservazione e nella tutela anche del patrimonio o nutrimento genetico delle molteplici etnie umane viventi nell’unicità del pianeta Terra. La cultura, del resto, è la principale responsabile della conservazione e della trasformazione delle forme contro il disgregarsi delle stesse. Dalla lingua parlata ai caratteri della scrittura; dall’organizzazione delle festività – per riallacciare i rapporti con la divinità – alle espressioni artistiche come conquista della bellezza; dal progresso scientifico alla conservazione del paesaggio naturale nella ricerca della sua abitabilità, fino ai nutrimenti materiali come forma di conoscenza vitale; ogni cultura, a seconda dei criteri identitari su cui si fonda, esprime concordanze e concorrenze finalizzate alla conservazione della salute e della serenità delle singole etnie che contribuiscono al mantenimento dell’unicità dell’umanità. Purtroppo, l’uso innaturale delle proprie prerogative per la ricerca della qualità della vita ha portato spesso più malessere che benessere. In questi termini, la mancanza di una cultura sana è come la mancanza della salute fisica: le malattie, di ogni tipo, hanno il terreno adatto per proliferare. Si può inquadrare in quest’ottica l’opera del pittore Francisco Goya che nel 1799 pubblicò un’acquatinta dal titolo “Il sonno della ragione genera mostri”, una delle raffigurazioni più celebri dell’artista spagnolo, apertamente ispirata alla filosofia del secolo dei lumi. Il titolo dell’opera spiega in modo sintetico che, se non viene garantita l’informazione e la formazione permanente necessaria per una collettività o per un’intera nazione, il corpus viene deformato, liberando “mostri” per il sistema che li ospita. Questa correlazione tra genetica e cultura è un’indicazione per noi e per le generazioni future a recuperare i principi generali, prima della verifica dei particolarismi, che regolano la vita stessa, affinché sempre di più sia ampliato ed elevato l’orizzonte delle infinite interrelazioni del creato per noi comprensibili. Ogni generazione migliora il proprio patrimonio genetico che, a sua volta, in un rapporto di reciprocità, appartenenza, identità e responsabilità, interferisce con il patrimonio culturale, espressione della propria capacità di essere e di divenire: ciò che noi chiamiamo tradizione e innovazione. Seguendo questi ragionamenti, affermiamo provocatoriamente che ogni virus e ogni difesa immunitaria appartengono in contemporanea alla cultura e alla genetica di ogni singola etnia.

È giunta l’ora di aprirsi a questo innovativo tipo di indagine per verificarne la reale portata per la nostra crescita.
